Tough Weekend in Belgium, Team Storck – MRW BAU Takes on International Competition

The Veenendaal–Veenendaal Classic and the GP Criquielion presented Team Storck – MRW BAU with two demanding one-day races this past weekend. Both events turned out to be far more selective than initially expected and required maximum physical and tactical effort from the riders.

The Veenendaal–Veenendaal Classic was raced at an extremely high intensity from the very beginning. Strong winds, constant battles for position and repeated accelerations made it a much harder race than anticipated, forcing many riders to dig deep just to stay in contention. The accumulated fatigue from this demanding race would also play a significant role the following day.

At the GP Criquielion, high temperatures combined with the efforts of the previous day created another challenging test. Aggressive racing throughout the event turned what many expected to be a bunch sprint into a highly selective race, with only a reduced group making it to the finish.

Once again, our team showed great commitment and teamwork. Throughout the day, the riders worked tirelessly to keep team leader Matthew Walls in the best possible position and safely guide him through the key moments and decisive selections of the race.

In the final kilometres, we unfortunately lacked a little extra support to move Matthew further forward before the sprint. Nevertheless, he delivered a strong performance against a very competitive international field and secured a respectable 17th place.

Although the results did not fully reflect the effort and quality of the team, there were many positives to take away from the Belgian races. The squad once again demonstrated its ability to compete at a high level under difficult conditions and to hold its own against strong ProTeams and Continental teams.

Our full focus now shifts to the next major highlight of the season: the Tour de Wallonie. Team Storck – MRW BAU is highly motivated to build on these performances and turn strong racing into strong results in the days ahead.
